Shin Oaks
Shin Oaks are usually only about 10-12 ft tall. Its most identifiable characteristic is the pale gray bark that distinguishes it from other similar oaks in the area. It has a high tolerance for heat and can survive with very little water. Because of this, shin oaks are very good natural erosion prevention for local forests and sandy soils.
Many wild birds eat shin oak acorns for food, and many woodland mammals graze its leaves. Thickets of shin oak are used primarily by deer and small woodland mammals as prime habitat.
Shin oak leaves have a shiny appearance and are typically a darker shade of green.
The undersides of the leaves are white and very hairy.
