Central Texas Drought
An ongoing drought has hit the high population Central Texas area particularly hard, specifically Austin and its surrounding suburbs. As of August 2015, the drought has been reinstated after weeks of no rain. Water restrictions and burn bans persist as the Austin area continues to grow quite rapidly. The Wild Basin natural preserve is particularly sensitive to these extreme fluctuations in rainfall, so it is important to follow all guidelines posted for the safety of this treasured natural area. These droughts also add to the risk of Central Texas floods. The soil hardens during a drought, impairing its ability to soak up any moisture, so any rain that falls quickly runs off the land and causes flash flooding.
